Research → Margaret Mahler Mother-Baby Project

Coordinated by Susan Scheftel, PhD and Staffed by Debra Schnall CSW and Alyson Mcormack CSW, this project provides psychodynamically oriented mother baby groups for young mothers at the highest risk for abuse and neglect. The groups are run at residential programs for dual diagnosis mothers (substance abuse and mental illness) and provide psychological and developmentally educative mother/baby treatment for mothers who would be unlikely to be otherwise exposed to such consistent care. In addition, Debra Schnall and Alyson McCormack also serve as consultants to other parent infant programs where they are now teaching the techniques for reaching these high-risk mothers that they have evolved over the last decade of their work with the mother baby programs.
